The Oscar Wilde Murder Mysteries
review 1: Oscar Wilde portrays wit at its pinnacle!! "I like men who have a future, and women who have a past" - Wilde really passes suave, witty comments! The book is very intelligently written, destined to amuse and entertain you while keeping the same suspense of the murders throughout the reading. An extremely skillful and erudite piece of writing and one well worth reading, not only for the plot, but for much information about Wilde and his friends at that period. The novel includes the likes of the illustrious Arthur Conan Doyle and Bram Stoker who are set on investigating the murder of Duchess of Albermarle and finally leads to the discovery which threatens to destroy the reputation of the royal family- and the reputation of Oscar Wilde.A highly recommended novel...,how I wish... moreed I had laid my hands on this series, and this particular novel before!!
review 2: I love this series, love-love-love it. Unfortunately, the epistolary structure doesn't really work for me here. Despite the solid breaks between "documents" and the use of different fonts, the different characters' voices are difficult to distinguish. It's an excellent story, but I prefer some of the other books, which were told from a single point of view. It's worth a read, though, simply because Brandreth is an outstanding storyteller, as well as a Wilde scholar. "His" Oscar Wilde will always be the one I think of when I read his name. less
