review 1: I was so disappointed by this book. I don't usually write reviews, however, due to my frustration with this novel, I am compelled. The story NEVER develops. It took so long to establish Vaclav & Lena's friendship as children and then it didn't come to fruition when they come back together as teens. Their relationship was so shallow and then the book abruptly ended, like the author ran out of ideas. It left me so dissatisfied and annoyed that I wasted my time by getting to the end of a story with such a weak conclusion.
review 2: A very sweet young adult fiction story about two childhood friends growing up in NYC. At the beginning of the book they are 9 years old and then later the story comes back together when they are in high school. The readers on the audiob... moreook are fantastic! They both read with so much emotion in their voices and both had an amazing ability to switch back and forth between the various levels of Russian accents in the parents, kids, and their older selves. Beautiful descriptions of being young and in love and also a sweet ending. less
