review 1: There are a lot of really solid m/m romance-adventure-mystery series out there involving an FBI agent (or other law enforcement hunk) and a civilian who gets caught up in his messes. Some of them are heart-stopping in terms of action as well as sex--you can include the Roux & Urban's Cut & Run Series, Josh Lanyon's many examples, RJ Scott's Sanctuary (and other) series, Neil Plakcy's Mahu and Have Body Will Guard series in this group, all first-rate. What you need are two completely opposite men in terms of appearance, demeanor, and commitment issues, plus nasty villains, good plotting and superior writing. Well, add Aaron Pearce and Mark Beecher to this mix and you have a read which moves along at breathtaking pace but has enough sense to stop and catch its breath and hav... moree some serious sexual fun. Neat start to what looks like an exciting series.
review 2: 2.5 stars This book certainly has it all! Hot guys who just can't resist each other, angst (because they should resist each other), crazy exes, drama, action, suspense and steamy sex (both actual and imaginary). And now you're thinking: "how is that possible in only 101 pages?". Well, obviously it can be done, but what you get is this story, where you need to hold on tight in order to not fall off. I would not say that I liked it, but I didn't hate it either. I'm actually having a hard time figuring this one out. I especially "liked" how the author managed to unravel the mystery. It felt sort of like the author himself got sick of the plot and just decided to wrap it up real fast without any fuss whatsoever. That was truly an "huh, okeeey... what?" moment. Despite all this, I kinda liked it a bit anyways. It was just weird, and not only in a bad way. less
