review 1: It was okay. I had to read it because I had to read a book by a dutch author that was published in 2007 or later. I liked it in the way that it was very mysterious, and very creatively written. I was surprised when I suddenly read that the girl I've been reading about wasn't the nice girl I thought she was. And it's a bit frustrating that I can't seem to find out what the last part: waarom, means. Seeing as I have to give a presentation about this book.
review 2: Hanna Bervoets writes columns in the Volkskrant Magazine. I always enjoy those, her style is different and fresh.However, her style is way too much for a whole novel. The characters are flat, the plot is bizar - I like plottwists, but this was ridiculous. The theme in the first part of the book is the... more way society handels the current beauty ideal and so on, but this did not match at all with the latter two parts. I also felt that this book is already stuck in time: it takes place in 2008 and some things just aren't relevant anymore already. So I was definitely not impressed at all.Still, if Bervoets would publish another novel, I think I would read it. She has quite a lot of potential. less
