review 1: This was the most bizarre book and I have no idea why I even picked it up! Upon reflection, I think I was interested in Laestadianism and thought it would be a great book for cultural information. Alas, it's the story of a family, with no beginning or end...a total waste of my time and I didn't learn anything about Laestadianism that I couldn't find out from Wikipages...matter of fact, I learned more from Wiki. That being said, after looking up the information, it only made what I was reading less attractive and extremely boring. I finished it, only because it wasn't very long, but I cared nothing for the characters, or their lives. I would never read anything else this author publishes. No skill whatsoever!
review 2: This was an interesting read, and once I go
... moret used to the chapters being told by different characters, I really got into it. I'd probably give this four stars, if it weren't for the last chapter, which was set in 1847, and outside of it involving the same religion, had nothing to do with the rest of the book. It just seemed really out of place, and put me off. But other than that, it was a quick read, and entertaining enough. less

I really liked this book. The only disappointment was the very oddly placed final chapter.
