review 1: The Ugly Duckling is an American classic that has been formatted in several different ways. The concept of the story is a young duck has been misplaced and doesnt look like the others, while he has been bullied and tormented, little did anyone know he would transform in a beautiful and elegant swan. This story shows children that it doesnt matter if someone is different they are beautiful in their own special way.
review 2: This is the story of a duckling that looked different than other ducks. His brother and sisters all told him he was ugly and for a long time everyone was mean to him. He ran away from home and wasn't treated much better through long harsh winter. Come spring, he saw some beautiful swans and decided to go and see if they would talk to him.
... moreThey all wanted to meet him, he looked at himself in the water and realized he had turned into a beautiful swan. He was very happy and lived with his new friends. This book is a great story to help students learn to not judge others by the way they look. There are many examples of the horrible treatment the ugly duckling received, which are able to be discussed with children to see what they think of it. There are important life lessons to be learned from this book. The illustrations are all in watercolor and will show students a new way things can be drawn. There are also great words which children might be unfamiliar with such as scythe, storks, burdock, ducklings, waddle, gander, and many others which will help them understand the story more fully. This book is a classic that teaches a great lesson and should be experienced by all young readers. less
