review 1: Very interesting. Lots of biographical information. Notes on the stories origins--which ones were his interpretations of earlier folk tales and which were original. Interesting to plot events of his life in context to the stories he was writing. Also very, very interesting to note changes made in modern versions. Could do a study on how these stories are rewritten to make them more relevant in the 21st century and also to our American culture. I had been passingly familiar with some of his tales from picture books read to me as a child. It was fascinating to go back as an adult and read them without all the lovely color pictures--let the words draw the pictures for me. Well worth the time!!
