The War That Came Early
review 1: A sequel to HITLER'S WAR, continues the alternate history in which WW2 began a year early. Turtledove is a good writer but the book doesn't end, at least one major event happens off-stage. I'd like to see a few pages in the corridors of power among major players like Hitler, Stalin, etc. There are two additional 400+ page novels available and I don't know if they end the story. When I start worrying more about a cat then the people, I began to wonder if the series couldn't have been trimmed by several hundred pages.
review 2: While Harry Turtledove does posit an interesting future based on the central premise of World War 2 happening years earlier than it might have, the fact of the matter is that this is clearly the beginning of a series. Many of the story
... morelines are not truly resolved, and while the portraits of life are interesting enough, it neither concludes the full story nor is it truly compelling enough for me to want to hear how the stories end. An interesting idea, but with an execution which doesn't live up to that promise. less

the characters become more interesting as the war heats up. rooting interest for some takes hold.

This was a good continuation of an interesting alternate timeline, but it was a really slow read.

The usual Turtledove format of segments blending into a whole. Enjoyable.
