review 1: First Tazaki book I've read. Probably not the best choice to read this before some of the others. From other reviews it sounds like his writing style and focuses have changed considerably over the last few years. Colorless is apparently a return to his previous style. The book was interesting but I didn't like the "no ending" feel. I kept waiting for a true climax and revelation but it didn't really come. Overall interesting concept but the no closure aspect made it not memorable for me.Quick synopsis: Colorless is a nickname for the main character Tsukuru who was one of 5 friends that had a close-knit group all through high school. He was the only one whose name did not contain a color and throughout the book he is troubled by this and its inference on his ability to sign... moreificantly contribute to other people's more colorful existence. He is the only friend to leave his home town for college and a year in, his friends suddenly and without explanation kick him out of the group. He sinks into depression and contemplates suicide. Ten years later, he returns to his hometown and seeks out his friends to learn what happened and to attain closure. What he discovers provides him closure and helps him move on with his life.

Reading this was an extremely personal experience. It was like a revelation of myself.

The book was good, but I'm getting bored of Murakami's themes.
