review 1: Well, I gave this one a good try, but 80 pages in, I really just have one word for it: insider's. This is an insider's book. I heard mention of this somewhere during March Madness and thought I'd give it a try. I'll read just about anything that gets a strong recommendation! But the book just presumes that you know enough about the general history of the Knicks during the late 1960's and early 1970's that the broad strokes are already familiar. If that's the case, I'm sure this is absolutely the most wonderful book ever -- all the ins and outs of the important players and characters that made up the hottest team of the time. But I wasn't there then, and I'm not enough of a sports buff to have picked up the story since. If you've got the broad strokes already, or basketball... more is your game, or you watched those games when they happened, then definitely check this out. I suspect you'll love it. I just didn't know enough for it to make sense to me.
review 2: A great book giving great insight into my favorite team. I wish I could have been alive to witness this team to see them win their two championships. It was fascinating to see how all the different personalities came together to form one unit. I liked all the profiles of the players, coaches, and fans. The way they played is the way basketball is supposed to be played. The only chapter I didn't like is the one on Earl Monore because it seemed the whole thing was about how much he regretted leaving the Bullets. Although the discussion about how him and Clyde would coexist offered a nice parallel to today's team with Melo and Stat. less

I can't STAND professional basketball now. When I was a kid, these guys were my team!

This was a great basketball book on the Willis Reed-led New York Knicks.

"Maybe not the best team ever - but maybe the most perfect team ever!"
