review 1: When I started reading Lottie Biggs, I thought I was reading a diary of a rather strange girl. Lottie had random outbursts by doing rather unusual things, such as throw a hissy fit in the middle of an exam because she didn't know which age bracket she fell into. Lottie's thought process had me laughing one minute and worried the next.Soon we realise that this isn't 'normal' teenage behaviour, but Lottie is suffering from a 'fairly significant mental disturbance.' She's had such episodes in the past and she's going through a bad phase of it now. And it comes to light when she unconsciously steals on a regular basis. Things like a giraffe teddy, pegs, tights etc. When her mother realises this they then take action to help her. Mental illnesses aren't commonly talked about an... mored I really enjoyed this perspective to it. Lottie realises what is wrong and instead of miraculously getting better and blaming her illness for everything, she begins to reflect more on her actions and understand herself better. By doing this, she's in a better position to get better quickly. Her family and friends can't do much except support her and that us exactly what she needs in this pivotal time. Lottie is a strong, intelligent, hard working girl and I'm sure she will turn this around. I would recommend this book for anyone suffering from or knows someone with a mental illness. It really helped my awareness of this issue and I hope it helps others too. Favourite Quotes:a lot of people call elvis names or take the piss out of him, but i always say hello and give him a smile when i see him. smiles are free after all, and i reckon if everyone smiled a bit more there’d be fewer heart attacks and murders and stuff.Gina said, ‘To be early is to be on time.To be on time is to be late.and to be late is unacceptable.’instead of being cross, i said,’i’ve never taken drugs ever. i don’t need to. i’m going nuts all on my own.’‘…it’s a part of life. The mind is a complicated thing, and it’s just as likely to have function difficulties as any other organ of the body. You can no more help having a mental upset any more than you can help having a high temperature or asthma or acne…’and he might just be a fat man in his fifties who wears a scruffy black leather jacket and drinks far too much and has no money and sleeps on a bench, and he may well be a little bit mad too, but i reckon it still takes a very special talent to be able to make other people smile. it takes no talent at all to make them feel awful.
