review 1: 3.5 starsReligious historical fiction is one of my favorite genres. I realize that the author takes a lot of liberty because so little is known about Abinadi. She did include her research at the end of the book, which was really nice to read. I did enjoy the book, but I still felt like it was somehow lacking. She skipped a big chunk of time between Abinadi's marriage and death. Although his death was terrible, it would have hit home a lot harder had the relationship between him and and his wife and child been built up better.The side story of Alma was actually really great though.
review 2: This is an interesting fictitious account of Abinadi. The author expands upon a short story found in the Book of Mormon. She creates several fictitious female charact... moreers, which I find interesting because I am always wondering about the women that lived at the time. I find my own ideas about the story differ from the author's (naturally). It turned out to be more of a romance novel than I expected. It was an enjoyable and thoughtful read, but perhaps not an eye-opener or a page-turner. less
