review 1: In the children’s story Snatchabook written by Helen and Thomas Docherty the main character, Eliza Brown, sets out to find the thief who has been stealing her towns bedtime stories. Every night the kids of the town Burrow Down would snuggle up in bed and listen to a bedtime story read to them by their parents. The books ranged from princess tales to pirate stories and the children adored listening to them before bed. One night they noticed all their bedtime stories were disappearing off the shelves. Eliza Brown was determined to find the book thief and make them return all the stories back to the children. While reading the story the audience gets to know the persistence and intelligence of Eliza Brown. She is dedicated to finding out who is stealing the joy from the kid... mores of her town. Eliza sets a trap and stacks a pile of books in the middle of her room as bait. When a shadow appears, she sees a tiny little snatchabook. He looked sad and upset with himself. The snatchabook has to look deep inside himself and decide to either do the right thing and return the books, or to keep stealing the books. This children’s book attracts kids because of its flowing nature and rhyming tune. It has a fast pace and draws the reader in with it’s colorful illustrations. The pictures are edge to edge and cover the entire page, which interests readers, no blank space means the more that is going on in each page. This book is interesting from the first page to the last. Throughout the story, children are learning a valuable lesson. The snatchabook has to decide whether he to right his wrongs and do the moral thing by returning the books, or to keep stealing them. This theme will teach children a lot and leave them with a strong sense of morality.
review 2: The Snatchabook written by Helen Docherty and illustrated by Thomas Docherty is a fun, enjoyable, and adorable bedtime read. It is about a rabbit named Eliza Brown who found a book and settled down to read when the Snatchabook came to town. Books began to disappear from left and right all over the forest and Eliza set off to solve the mystery. She created a trap and waited for the Snatchabook to reappear. Then from the darkness, she caught the Snatchabook red-handed; but it wasn't who she expected, a little mouse named Snatchabook! He only wanted to be read to and with that, Eliza sympathized with the little mouse and helped Snatchabook turn a wrong into a right by returning all the books to the forest. Snatchabook also got a book read to him in the end. This book was brought to life through rhythm and rhyme. It really engaged me as a reader as the words were flowing through my mouth and mind. Not only that, but the illustrations which were colorful, cheery and warm, appealed to the heroine of the book (Eliza) who loves reading and sharing books with the animals of the forest. Most importantly, the book also had two good morals at the end which were that stealing is wrong and that everyone needs/wants someone to read to them. As a child, I was always read to when I was little, so it was hard for me not to relate to Snatchabook. However, I did empathize with him and I was glad it had a very lighthearted ending. less
