review 1: This book shows a lot of imagination. I also got the distinct feeling that the author has a lot of knowledge about a many things. So why did I not like this book?I didn't like that every second short story in this book pushed the "global warming is happening and we have to do something now or we will all die soon" theme.I felt the author was definitely on the side of the global warming/climate change advocates and was using this medium to either scare the readers or trying to convince them into changing their way of life to counter act climate change. Although I really did appreciate the diversity of the short story's other content, my enjoyment of the book was greatly diminished because I felt I had been sold a stack of propaganda from the climate change brigade. I am not... more a subscriber of climate change and do not like to be taken for a fool by someone who is trying to get the idea into my head by hook or crook or by stealth as in this case. The title was also misleading as only one story had to do with in-flight entertainment and the rest had nothing to do with that title.
review 2: The theme of this collection is the end of the world, with the cause assumed to be the lack of resources and increased global temperature associated with cheap, constant air travel. Some of the characters have given up hope for the future, some are full of optimism, some are ignorant. It's an enjoyable short read. Kind of a downer, for obvious reasons. Most of its straight realism, but one story delves into the fantastic with a conference of dead writers, who you can meet and talk to and ask questions of. (Don't be impertinent to Jane Austen, though.)My favorite story has a college-aged couple traveling through Europe, one an optimist about the future and one a pessimist. It's called "Geography Boy," and it evokes a feeling of helplessness and wonder in the face of global catastrophe. less

Dark and sad, most of the stories herein. Of course, I liked it.
