Inspector Huss
review 1: the 2nd in the Inspector Irene Huss Investigation series (see 2014/#11); this one is about RN’s working night shift and the disasterous things that can happen: but why and who. I picked out the killer rather quickly (which in itself is rather amazing—I am usually way off base); still liking this author and the female Investigator.2012 English translation of a 1999 book via Sweden; 326 pgs.; hardback purchased via Robie Books; 5 out of 5 stars; read Nov. 27 2014/#69
review 2: Unlike much of the Scandinavian crime fiction being written today, Helene Tursten’s psychological mystery series does not rely on place. Had we not been told that the setting is Goteborg, Sweden, you could easily imagine any contemporary Western mid-sized city. Her emphasis is entir
... moreely on her characters. They are so realistically written that they practically move in with you as you read, creating an experience as engaging as theatre in the round. The action is cerebral for the most part, although Inspector Irene Huss, who holds a black belt in jujitsu, does get an opportunity to defend herself. Her colleagues, family members and suspects are all fascinating people, too, with all their strengths, weaknesses and behavioral quirks. Red herrings are subtly introduced into the mystery, but even if you guess the murderer, the solving of the crime is still very entertaining. less

Good story, but didn't like the English translation. Therefore 3 instead of 4 stars.

Another good Scandy thriller with a female protagonist you want to follow.
