review 1: 16 year old Claire and her father move to a small town from Chicago after Claire is brutally attacked for her journalism work on a drug dealer. Unfortunately, she moves to town just as another girl, Serena, is attacked and hidden in the woods, and Claire is haunted by the girl and the feral cats of the town. This was one of the creepiest books I've read in a long time - amazing atmosphere and terror. It was also brutal and graphic - Serena hasn't left her body as the killer tries to hide her, and we are right there with her as her body breaks and the cats attack. Seriously. Creepy. It dragged a bit in the third quarter, it definitely could have gotten cut down, and while I was slightly disappointed in the ending, it was a good ending and I also liked it a lot. I know, that... more doesn't make sense! Basically I want to read an alternate ending that carries through the cat plot. Claire was pretty great, as was her father, and I liked how things tied together.
review 2: The book Feral by Holly Schindler begins with a totally unexpected but absolutely perfect twist to this young adult thriller. When I started reading Feral I was expecting it to be similar to the movie The Birds but with feral cats. However, this book ended up being completely different from what I expected. It was so much better. The similarities between Serena and Claire were beyond eerie but this only made me enjoy this suspense filled book all the more. I could go on and on about why I enjoyed this book so much but the only way to know how amazing this book is you would have to read it for yourself. less
