review 1: A Blue So Dark is an amazingly written book of family and mental illness. Aura wishes she could go back to when her mother was ok, and her father hadn't left them. As her mother’s schizophrenia worsens, Aura has no support whatsoever. She has trouble managing her mother’s hallucinations and episodes on her own, and she begins to wonder how much longer she can handle it. Can Aura find help for both her and her mother before it’s too late?
review 2: I loved this book. Such lush, beautiful writing and at the core a heartbreaking but somehow uplifting story. Main character Aura's life is spinning out of control. Her mom, an artist, is off her meds and pretty much having a schizophrenic breakdown. Aura's doing her best to take care of her, but tied up in her f... moreears about her mom's health is Aura's fear that SHE will inherit her mom's disease. Aura is artistic, just like her mother is, and her only solution to save herself, she thinks, is to give up her art. less
