review 1: This is the best compilation I've ever come across for Lovecraft's fiction. Just make sure you get the one with the purple ribbon page separator, because the original edition with the gold ribbon has a lot of typos and spelling errors. The only reason I did not give this beautiful volume the full five stars is because the pages are a little thin and fragile, like those of an old heavy bible and that definitely detracts from such a great edition of old HP's work. Other than that, it's an awesome book. As far as contents are concerned, this one includes all of his fiction and I mean all. Sometimes, particularly on his shorter works, he reaches this sort of fever pace that makes my skin crawl, and then other times he slows down and gets stuck in a mire of unfocused geography or economics, losing track of where the story is even going.Overall, I personally prefer the subdued ideas and playful style of Poe. less
