review 1: Not really Lovecraft's fault, but when I read spooky I like to be spooked all the way. While Lovecraft may have blazed the trail for contemporary horror/suspense writers, living in a Stephen King world makes it hard to go back in time, and Lovecraft never delivers that killer-clown knockout punch you crave. I don't really have this problem with Poe. Still, otherworldly, sort-of-alien-but-sort-of-demon style of Lovecraft is an amazing thing to experience.

Free version on Kindle. The 8 or so 'major' stories are worthwhile. the early stuff, not so much.
