review 1: Summary: Florence watches as her sister is killed by "The Butcher of the Dances". In an attempt to discover her sister's killer, Florence joins a famous brothel. Review: Ok, this book is not for children; there are some graphic portions, but overall I found the content not incredibly scandalous. When the book first arrived over a year ago, some of the librarians were up in arms because some of the pictures are graphic - most of the novel takes place in a brothel. But, this isn't a love story. Sex isn't glorified, and the two admirable characters both retain their virginity throughout the novel. This doesn't excuse Florence's behavior, she still exploits sexuality -- her own and her client's -- but you're so drawn by the story, that the sexuality becomes less impor... moretant.
review 2: Great Book! One of the freshest faces I've come across in comics (I know they've been at it for a while, talking about the book in itself) in a long time. I came across this title when I was browsing the venders at this past NYCC, and decided to pick it up. I've long been a fan of the European comic book experience, and this one did not disappoint. It's written and illustrated by a this french couple that has this unique chemistry in their work, and only a married couple can have, barf...actually, I would wonder how many fist fights they must have gotten into during the creation of this book, lol. less
