review 1: I surprised myself by how much I wanted to read this one in spite of the title and the fact that there was a baby in the prompt picture. The blurb and the tags convinced me to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. It was a lovely story. Sweet and hopeful and... magical.David and Max are both so earnest and endearing, I couldn't help but cheer for them. And who doesn't love a guy who knits?
review 2: For sheer magical delight the opening chapters of this little treasure are tough to top. I adored David from the first and when I found out his "gift" was connected to wishes and hand knitted beanies, I was hooked. He knits luck into beanies he sells in his coffee shop. Not mittens, not sweaters or booties. Beanies. How magical is that? I want one and I want it now.
... moreThis is one of the best small magic (as opposed to save-the-world magic) stories I have read. What happens when David gives a beanie to Max, his secret infatuation, is laugh out loud priceless. The repercussions and dilemmas presented by David's magic felt real as he and Max grapple with the confusion. I know I will be reading this one again and looking out for more stories from this author. less
