review 1: Captain Cat is a terrible trader -- he loves cats so much that he never becomes rich sailing the seas. When he's blown off course, he lands on an island overrun with rats. He leaves his cats with the Queen of the island and is rewarded with jewels and riches. After continuing to sail the seas, he returns to the island to live with his cats and the Queen. Sweet but not particularly charming. A good bedtime read aloud for kids aged 4 - 6.
review 2: A tale about the relative value of things and of generosity triumphing over greed. I wish I were at work to look up other folktales of this motif- the only one coming to mind at the moment is 'The Perfect Orange' by Frank Araujo. Basically, a person offers a simple gift to a monarch and is unexpectedly given a larg
... moree reward. When the greedy hear of this, they go an offer the monarch a large treasure to see what they will get in exchange and the monarch offers his or her 'most precious treasure,' the simple gift he or she received from the person with a generous heart. Great read aloud. (for one on one, not tested at storytime yet) less

Good story: companionship is more important than material wealth.

Cute, sort-of rambly story. Great illustrations.
