review 1: A gentle book with themes of friendship, making amends for accidentally ruining someone else’s property, payment in kind, and thriftiness. As all the reviewers note, it’s the illustrations that make the book. They transport the reader into a wonderful world of harmony and gentleness where there are no problems and everyone is kind to everyone else. This story is the equivalent of cozying up next to Mommy with a cup of hot cocoa on a wintry day--very soothing.
review 2: A really cute book about animals working together to get something accomplished. The illustrations are what make this book. It is so British! The pigs were serving the beaver tea at break time, the store had unknown brands and they went to thrift stores to furnish their new house. It w... moreas so cute.The illustrator gave the animals expressions on their faces and body postures you could relate to. When the moose calls the beaver, he is leaning on the wall with his hand on his hip. She also illustrated The Wind in the Willows and The Secret Garden. I just love her colors and detail.This is a Candlewick Press book. I am always drawn to them because they are such high quality stories and illustrations. less
