review 1: This was a fairly good rendition, as Graphic Novels go... of Lovcraftian Horrors. I cannot say it was the very best book I ever read on the topic, Graphic Novel or not, but it was worth the read and it did hold my attention.It is very specific in the choices of color in the graphics, and I think that was a bonus- in many ways, it was like rendering black and white, without the monotony of that. Instead, each set of drawings chose color ranges that evoked specific moods, and that worked very well for this book.
review 2: A really eerie graphic novel based on a book (that i want to read) by H. P. Lovecraft. I love stories that take us to the depths of the wilderness like the antarctic and then create a whole other world that we would never know about because of t... morehe physical and environmental challenges. The journey and mystery was fun. Then it got a little shaky at the middle because the characters suddenly have all this knowledge about this world they've encountered but the illustrator doesn't quite convey how much or what it means to them when they actually discover something that they read from some really arcane text. The illustrations are really nice and draw you in. In the end I was feeling a little chilly and creep-ed out. It did make me want to read the original. Aside from it being a classic text of men vs. nature and then men vs. other (which gets really old and played out cause it's damn near everywhere), it was alright. less
