review 1: This story was short but really gets it hooks into you, only giving hints of the way magic works in the world. It made me want to read more, and I so I was glad to find out it’s going to be part of a series. Even in the short piece, each of the characters were fleshed out well, none of the daughters being a stock standard farm maid. The excerpt from Thorn was equally interesting, and I intend to buy that soon as her style and pacing are excellent.
review 2: I thoroughly enjoyed The Bone Knife, and look forward to reading more by Khanani. The characters are intriguing (I love Bean) and Rae makes an excellent protagonist, for both a short story and longer fiction. Like the best fantasy, the plot is as much about the human condition as it is about the magic, and... more the strange relationship between Rae and the Faerie left me eager to see it explored more. Overall a well-written, enjoyable story, and a well done to the author. less
