review 1: This book is set in Victorian England. Mina is working as a secretary for a professor of history. One day Stephen MacAlaisdair walks in to see her boss. She tells him he is not in, but Stephen is adamant that he must see him, and that the matter is very important. She goes to see if the professor will see him, He agrees, and so she leaves them to talk. Her curiousity about the encounter is running rampant and so she decides to find out more about Laird Stephen MacAlaisdair by talking to his cook. She goes to Stephen's house to have tea with his cook, and while there, she and the cook are attacked by some shadowy otherworldly creatures. They knock the cook out and Mina starts running. She gets outside a locked door, where she hears a roar. Suddenly the door is busted open, ... moreas a dragon comes hurtling towards the creatures, killing them. She decides to run while the creatures and dragon are otherwise occupied. She walks into a room, where she picks up a poker to protect herself. The dragon comes into the room and she threatens it. It surprises her, however, when it turns into a man, but not just any man but Stephen MacAlaisdair. She and Stephen talk, where she finds out many things, about him being a dragon shifter, about his enemy and about the creatures that came after her. He tells her that she needs to stay for her own protection and because she knows what he is. He offers her a job as his secretary for as long as it takes to take down his enemy. One day while trying to shut her up, he kisses her, and the rest as they say is history. They have a hard time trying to keep their hands to themselves from that point onward. To find out more, read the book.I really enjoyed the book. I loved Mina and Stephen and the chemistry between them. I only wished it had been longer and we could have seen more of their romance. I can't wait for Colin's story, and I hope that we will get to see more of Mina and Stephen.
review 2: This is a keeper. Intelligent, practical heroine who is great under fire, and a hero to match her. A heroine who carries on & holds up in unexpectedly fantastical circumstances, this story is a straightforward and entertaining accounting, with some wit. My only disappointment was the novel ended rather suddenly after the story's climax. HEA there may be, but there was very little in the way of a denouement. The lack of that and an epilogue left me feeling bereft and missing something. Almost as if the author hit a word count limit. It just felt like there had to have been more that happened after that climax, and so much more that could have been described in this world. AND I wanted to know about it. LOL That being said, I'll be checking out this author's other books in the hope of more. *grin* less
