review 1: I had a love/hate relationship with this book. Mostly loved it, but hated the many chapters with a POV switch into the heads of boring people who I could care less about (or the omniscient narrator, WTF). Most of them didn't even further the story along and I skimmed them. Loved Riley/Mischa/McClane and would rather have had those chapters devoted to them. Recommended, and would read a sequel (but would likely not read this again).
review 2: An interesting parable about acceptance, couched in an amusing mishmash of classic Hollywood plotlines. There’s the misguided soldiers trying to take out the innocent alien from space (though the alien is quite a good shot, and not above killing anything that gets in its way). There’s the innocent country boy, in
... morelove with the Russian mobster, but refusing to accept his lover’s homicidal tendencies (until the chips are down and he starts racking up just as respectable a body count as any hitman). There’s the assassin who is redeemed by his single-minded devotion to his innocent lover (who apparently gets off on a bit of threesome action between his hitman boyfriend and his alien symbiote). Eventually, everyone (human and alien) chooses a side and takes a stand once the bullets, grenades, and missiles start flying. The results certainly take high marks for pure entertainment value. Definitely worth an afternoon read. less

This really was like reading a summer action movie. Fun, even with plot holes.
