review 1: This book was a lot bigger than I would have expected for a Beehive nominee (2014-2015), especially as there are a couple of other big ones in this year's choices. How many children are actually going to real all 200? I was running out of time, so I actually skimmed the book. I read a few poems here and there, particularly ones about animals I like. But the part I enjoyed the most were the photographs. And I looked at every single one of those. I would actually like to own this book for my own kids, because it's one that could be enjoyed in phases, over a period of time as well as all at once if they have the time.
review 2: My mentor just received this book from one of our Scholastic book orders. We have used it several times in class and the kids LOVE the ph... moreotographs of the different animals. The text includes common animals and rare animals. I love that the poems include factual information about the animals and include lots of interesting and tier 3 vocabulary. I have used a few of these poems to teach tuning into interesting words and learning new vocabulary. less
