review 1: DNFWow, I couldn't stand to read anymore of this book. I feel I have to connect with the characters for me to want to read the book. My total dislike for this book wasn't the writing. This is the first J.A. Hornbuckle book that I didn't finish. Gabe.......What an ASS! Gabe and Crys have been bestfriends since very early childhood. Crys had problem reading and was made fun of by others in school and Gabe treated her that way. He acted like he didn't like her, made fun of her to his friends but when they were together without others he treated her like a princess?!?!? WTF. He was her first kiss and he wanted her sexually, but then went back to school and got with a girl that treated Crys like a reject and let the whole town act that way to her. Gabe even told his HS... more girlfriend that was mean to her that Crys begged him to be with her and he couldn't. If someone treats you like that your whole life, you might be able to forgive them, but how can you ever love someone who treated you like dirt your whole life when others were watching? I just couldn't stomach anymore and stopped reading about 55% into the book. I don't think anything Gabe could do would make me like him after reading that and if I'm going to spend my free time reading then I want it to be about a guy I could at least like. I've read a lot of books where the Hero is an ass or acted liked a jerk, but Gabe was the nasty bully in school, not a hero.
review 2: I would have scored this story higher if the Alpha-male main character was not such an arse-wipe for a good portion of the book. The story was, as per usual with this author, extremely well written and the dialogue and characters full of life and emotion. But Gabe, really just needed to grow a set much earlier and stand up for his love. Even with that opinion I did love the majority of this story and it's only my personal opinion after all. :) less
