review 1: this book was even better than the first book because the confusing memories of Junco were sorted out. but ... this series is really heavy and very disturbing sometimes ... I get the feeling that I really live in the story with Junco and have to confess although it is good, I need some space so that I can relax againbut here some of my opinions on this bookthe story was good, altough it is very bloodthirsty and dark and if you don't like to read about too much action and killing people maybe you should skip itbut in some twisted way the story (even the killing made sense) and the plot is really fantastic. You never know what comes next and it is really well writtenI think Junco was a great character in this one and learned a lot since her leaving earth. I don't agree with... more all her decisions but in the end I think she showed everyone what kind of person she is ...regarding the side characters: I really missed Tier in the storyI loved all the side characters - even Lucan. Ashur was also a great addition but I was a bit disappointed with his behaviour towards Junco at the end and thought that I would have liked him more without some of his actions as I said above: this series is great and I will definitely read the next one ... so if you like dark, good stories with strong characters and a plot which is absolutely not predictable than this is your series to read!
review 2: Very rarely is a second book in a series as good as or even better than the first. This book was amazing! Met all of my expectations and more! The second book starts out with Junco emerging from her morph into an avian. Although, as usual, trouble was brewing during her change; Tier is on trial for treason, Junco is disliked for her supposed role in the situation, and she happens to be on an alien planet. I loved the addition of the new characters, the Aves 039 boys! Lucky Junco, where can I get one? ;) Rather than weighing down the story they really helped to propel it and provide structure. Although the part that really set this book apart from other second novels was that Junco wasn't annoyingly pining for her lost "love"...FINALLY an author deviates from the norm and doesn't do the Twilight typical "he loves me, he loves me not." Tier is pretty much absent from the novel, and in most cases this really peeves me off, but thankfully the author put in something that REALLY takes your mind off the Tier-Junco relationship. In order to remain with the avians Junco must prove her worth in the Fledges. The Fledges are reminiscent of the Hunger Games arena with its "kill or be killed" attitude. But boy did it sure make for an interesting second novel! My only problem with this book was the overwhelming "Junco love" that manifested in EVERY male in the novel. Yes, I understand she is a kick-ass assassin with a freakening awesome biological weapon but come on... does every avian with a Y chromosome NEED to protect and "little- sister" Junco? But besides that, great novel! Now on to Flight and yet another sleepless night! :) less
