review 1: This is one of Joe's early never published books that he has free on his site. It introduces Jack Daniels who shows up in subsequent novels and Tequila, the protagonist. Joe writes suspense/horror/humor all in the same story and does it well. I am not sure why none of his first 8 books were accepted by publishers other than they are obviously out of touch, probably why they are either fading from the publishing scene or morphing into something new that is more successful. Meanwhile Joe is raking in the $ on Amazon Direct and entertaining his fans, myself amongst them. I was surprised that there were still 6 errors in a book written so long ago. Joe has stated that he doesn't want the feedback. Recommended. A kick-em up, shoot-em up, high voltage story.
review 2:... more> If you’re looking for a trip into the arena of pulp fiction featuring a diminutive anti-hero and a tough young female Chicago Homicide Detective, look no further than SHOT OF TEQUILA by J.A.Konrath. This is one of those hard boiled pieces of action noir filled with callous and remorseless mob guys, a protagonist sporting the unlikely name of Tequila Abernathy who is trying to stay one step ahead of the “baddies” while being pursued by a cop named Jack Daniels. While the names may sound a little cutesy………the story is not. This is one of those kick ass and take names tomes that will appeal to any reader who enjoys the works of guys like James M. Cain and Elmore Leonard or the movies of Bruce Willis and Jason Statham.Tequila is a guy to whom the fates have not been kind and SHOT OF TEQUILA is a morality play of sorts that redefines the varying levels of good and evil. While there is more than enough blood and guts action liberally peppering the pages of this book there is also the underlying theme of morality, family devotion and dedication to duty. While I am not a particular fan of this genre, I did get caught up in the story and find myself looking forward to the possibility of another shot of Tequila with a chaser of Jack. less
