review 1: I read this series in the early 1990s. It was the first fantasy I had read for a few years and I have a general sense that they were well written, but I don't remember much specific from them. The setting was ok otherwise I have vague memory of the progressive eels (?) they were good. My memory fails me save that there was a rapid and satisfactory resolution of the plot in the last hundred or so pages.Pleasant at the time, but I don't imagine reading it again.
review 2: Phenomenal. 1,000 pages of high fantasy, fairies and fairy tells, king and princesses and wars, wizards and adventures. I would give it six stars if I could. I'm not good at describing how good this is. If you've never read any Vance this is a great place to start; it's arguably even bett... moreer than The Dying Earth omnibus. Maybe a little less flat out hilarious than the adventures of Cugel, but this is a much more fully realized work, with a substantial number of viewpoint characters and a through plot over the 1,000 pages.
