review 1: I could only review this book as "Zany". Emma is widowed after her husband dies in a car crash. She feels guilty as they had a big fight before he left. She has a 6 year old daughter who acts and talks more like a 13 year old. Emma's older sister Laura's husband has just left her for a younger woman moves in with Emma. Her mother has just found our that her husband (Emma's dad) has been having an affair with the seamstress who hems up his pants. So mom moves in also. I found this book unrealistic and boring. The constant sitting around drinking wine and eating salsa and chips became tedious. The women's idea of getting over the pain of their losses, and feeling better about themselves, was to jump in the sack with the first man who came along with a penis and having wild s... moreex. Emma leaves her daughter with her family night after night to have sex with a man she doesn't really know? They should have been in counseling or support groups. My opinion of these three women was they lacked low self esteem, low self worth and very little respect for themselves. If this book was suppose to be a comedy it fell short for me. If it was a book about romance it fell WAY short for me. The only part that was amusing was regarding Emma's encounters with the "Matt's". The last few paragrahps of this book where the only good part.I never put down a book without finishing it. I feel the author deserves better and I had really hoped it would have gotten better. I'm glad this was free.
review 2: Free Gift With Purchase is Jackie Pilossoph's best book to date! From the minute I picked this book up. I became emotionally invested in the characters and I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! Honestly, I am usually pretty good at guessing the endings of most books, but this one had me guessing the whole time. Jackie has joined the ranks of Jennifer Weiner and all of my other favorite chick lit authors! Don't miss this great read! less
