review 1: Alfonso Perplexon has always been a person who could do amazing things in his sleep; and who has endured the ridicule (and various other reactions) from those who observe him. It has been hard on him, his mother Judy and his grandfather, especially since his father apparently died when he was swimming during a lightening storm. Yet, one night, everything changes when his father's brother arrives and leads Alfonso towards his destiny.I originally read this book last year, but read it again as the second in the series was released. Halpern and Kujawinski have a way with description and characterization, providing a rich and enticing tableau.I highly recommend this novel.
review 2: So I randomly picked this book up from the AU library and boy am I glad I did. I th
... moreought the cover looked interesting enough, and I know... you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but in this case I'm glad I did.I thought this book was great! I have read all of the Harry Potters, and as far as the writing goes, I think this book is right up there with them. I like Harry Potter better for the story in and of itself, but the writing in Dormia is fairly exquisite. It flows well and the story is fascinating. When I would start reading, I didn't want to put the book down. I would definitely recommend this book to others. So if you're reading this review, check it out. less

A great idea. For me--this is a book for kids. It needs a few more kid characters.
