review 1: Review from Mia, aged 11This book is about a boy called Sammy. His mother is an inventor and is making him a robot to bring to school. She thinks it will help his sister, Maddie who is housebound due to an illness. The robot can then teach her all the things he has been taught in school. The robot is called 'E' (short for egghead). 'E' goes to Sammy's classroom to learn, but gets suspendended for interrupting teachers and having food fights. When he is allowed to return to the school, he behaves better after some 'cool' lessons from Sammy. The book takes a turn when 'E' is kidnapped and Sammy and hos family need to find him.I liked this story, especially as it had some great puns included. Sammy is just an average boy with a very special robot brother. Coming from ... morea family if inventors means his life is unusual, but fun.Hanging out with 'E' has it's benefits (like having a personal bodyguard to protect him against bullies). Because Maddie is stuck at home, 'E' is her way of seeing what is happening outside of the house. I loved the drawings. They helped make the book come to life. I can't wait to read the next in the series of House of Robots!I would recommend this book for ages 8+
review 2: ‘House of Robots’ made by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein together with artwork created by Juliana Neufeld is start of new book series for youngsters which brings interesting idea how it would look like to have robot as friend and protector from school bullies. The main character Sammy Hayes-Rodriguez lives with his sister Maddie who cannot go to school because of her disease and his mother who is a robot scientist. Sammy’s mother is devoted on inventing and perfecting robots that will help her keep the house clean because of Maddie’s health problems.Sammy has enough trouble to fit in school but things will become even worse when his mother will send along to school her robot prototype. Talking robot called E (short for Error) who sees itself as Sammy’s brother will not be good at school and will be sent home. Whether this will mean another step further in Sammy’s alienation from colleagues or robot can actually help him?‘House of Robots’ with its style and theme is very close to ‘I Funny’ and ‘Treasure Hunters’ series which is not strange given same two authors cooperated on their creation. The story will be entertaining for young readers and it can be predicted this is another Patterson work which will further establish him as No. 1 when it comes to number of bestseller novels, either for kids or adults.Together with story that is not complicated to follow, although for older readers will be a little predictable, the book contains many humorous illustrations that will attract the attention of a young reader which combined with the socially sensitive topic of bullying makes this book certainly recommended for target audience of 8 years old kids and older. Therefore, if your kid loved ‘I Funny’ and ‘Treasure Hunters’ do not look further, new Patterson work will certainly entertain your child and make her/him laugh. less
