review 1: I didn't really dig this book, but it gets 4 stars because my four year-old loved it. I specifically didn't like the strained rhythm and rhymes, which made it sort of hard to read. I also didn't like the reference to a screwdriver as an ear probe for large aliens. While, sure, whatever, I felt compelled to point out that this is a silly and bad whenever I read it. But, as I said, the girl loved it.
review 2: This book is specifically about mothers so I would be sensitive to if you have students who do not have a mother or a have mother present. You could use this book to talk about heroes in children's lives or the person they look up to or who takes care of this. This would be a great book to modeling a writing piece after if children wanted to. It has kind of... more a return home thing going on at the end so this could also be an example of that. less
