review 1: ***I received a copy of this book for an honest review***Roses hits the mark with a raw and blunt use of the modern English language, to tell a story that is dark, sad and tragic, with a hint of coming-of-age, all rolled into one. We follow the life of Amanda, a girl who is just seven years old when we first meet her, whose path was never going to be easy after she caused the death of her twin sister. The author caught the confusion and the guilt that one would shoulder after such an event, in my opinion. It's a sad tale with occasional moments of joy. To be read with a box of tissues handy.
review 2: This book grabbed me from page one and I flew through its pages quickly. A family of five falls into dysfunction after one of the twin girls falls through the ic
... moree and dies leaving Mom, Dad and the remaining two daughters to struggle on with their lives. Struggle is putting it mildly for surviving twin Amanda and the story is told from her perspective. Because there is no extensive dialogue between any of the characters, you come to feel that you are actually seeing the point of view of a naïve teenager. At times heartbreaking, (okay, throughout the whole thing I was heartbroken for Amanda) it is thought provoking and maddening at once. Families are tough to navigate on the best of days. Throw in death, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, and sexual abuse and you have a real nightmare on your hands. This independent author somehow manages to bring it all back together leaving you feeling better for having read it. less

This story would have been so much better told in 1st person. A lot was lost in my opinion.

This was a goof book. Kind of a slow start, then picked up towards the end.

The ending was somewhat predictable but still a good, quick read.
