review 1: Birdie Cramer Bright is stuck in NYC when all she wants is green open places. She loves plants and knows everything about them. When she meets her Granny Mo for the first time, she discovers that a green thumb is a family trait that's far more important than she could've imagined. It's the family destiny that every girl in each generation is a fairy godmother. Now it's Birdie's turn to prove her worth and enter the realm of the fairies through her dream. This was a refreshing change of pace for me. I don't often read children's books, but I'm glad that I picked up this one. It was fun and whimsical. A magical journey in an exotic fantasy land. Birdie's a sweet girl and brave. A good role model for young girls. I like the dose of reality in this. A rough move for Birdie to a... more big city from a California home that she loved. A distant mom that she feels doesn't understand her at all. The prospect of having to start at a new school. All of it was handled wonderfully.I'd definitely recommend this to parents who have girls that love to read.
review 2: 3.75.....I read this one out loud with my 7 year old daughter. It is a cute story with very likable characters. As I have noticed other's comments in some previous reviews, I must agree that there were a lot of big words in this one - mostly plant names, but also just some larger words that seemed to be thrown in randomly. I think anyone younger than 11 would have a hard time reading this as a solo read. However, having said that, I did read it TO my daughter, and because we could stop and explain what words meant, she loved it. It was a really cute story and both my daughter and myself are excited to continue to the next novel in the series. less
