review 1: Chasing the Skip, by Janci Patterson, was a frustrating read because it was well written and held my attention. The problem with it, to me, is that the main character, Ricki, a 15 years old girl, does not seem to accept the caring of her father. OK, she was tossed to him by his mother and she had not seen him since she was a young child. She does have trust issues but she just can’t seem to pick the right person to trust. Her dad, a bounty hunter, has no choice but to bring her along with him and she keeps fantasizing that the person her dad has caught or is tracking down is nicer than she thinks. Also, because she does not seem to realize how serious her dad’s profession is, she keeps putting herself and him at risk. For a while this works but after a while I keep won... moredering what the hell is wrong with her. Yes, she is damaged by the bouncing around but……
review 2: I don't really know what it was that I expected from this story, but I am just so darn frustrated that this wasn't it. I have been anxiously awaiting Chasing the Skip for months, but I discovered very shortly into it that I was in for a surprise. I think what I expected from the synopsis would have been more of a romance with a young girl and bad boy skip that just happened to cross paths. What it seems I revealed actually was a head strong little girl that has had a rotten life. For years her father has been absent while working as a bounty hunter, but as of three weeks ago she is now traveling along side him after her Mother suddenly abandoned her with her Grandmother. This just dives right into the very dangerous and sketchy development of Ricki's situation. Being a fifteen year old girl; she is naive to the world and the true nature of criminals. When her Dad agrees to pick a young man with pretty hefty charges everything seems to spin out of control. This was not your good guy gone bad, or bad boy with a gentle side story. It was an all out desperate little girl, and a manipulative criminal. The story speeds through quickly, so it was no trouble to slide right through the end of the story, but I had just been hoping for something a little more exciting. less
