review 1: I'm on the fence with this one. I really liked the writing, but I was a bit frustrated about the whole two steps forward, one step backward dance that the main characters did in the book. Even the hero mentions it a few times saying to the heroine that she "runs hot and cold". That was how their interactions were for a long time, too, hot and cold. They were attracted to each other, but then no, leave me alone, I don't need this. That was the first half of the book. Even towards the end, when they were supposed to fight together against the villain, the hero again slips and has a meltdown because of a silly thing (he's been outed from his club) and because of that he's cold against the heroine for a short while. It read a bit disjointly because of this, the characters (H&h... more) were not 100% believable because of this.
review 2: a love lost...a love found....Robert and Jane's story does not disappoint. If you read the first in Jane Larks series, The Illicit Love of a Courtesan, you know that this writer knows her stuff! She pulls you into the story in the first few paragraphs and does not let you go! Again I give Jane Lark a 5 star cause it is well deserved!! I love reading historical romances and am glad when you find authors that can actually write them well. As for Robert and Jane, well there is no lack of sparks between these two. And you also have a back story for them as well from when they were young. Again, you can't tell too much or you have given the story away....read it...read them both...they're great!! less
