review 1: Fast-paced, interesting, a good boy book! Would recommend. Liked the tone and writing. 590LReview: "Booklist Reviews 2012 July #1Stuey moves up to third grade with the same teacher, the same buddies, and the same know-it-all classmate introduced in The One and Only Stuey Lewis (2011). Similarly structured, with four connected stories that cycle through the school year, this volume shows Stuey facing some practical difficulties arising from his parents' divorce, and solving his problems creatively. The four episodes concern a space-themed class sleepover, a first-time flight to Dad's new home for Christmas, Mother's Day, and a class pet show. With a broad emotional range in both writing and illustrations, this is a cut above most early chapter books. Copyright 2012 Booklist... more Reviews."Elements to be aware of in recommending: divorce - may be one to recommend for kids whose parents are; there's some name calling, but in the context of our culture not too bad - a lot of the name calling happens with his brother and they are shown to truly love each other and work together; there is some lying. The author calls the teacher by her formal name but some of the kids call her by her first name - I found this PERSONALLY very disconcerting! The character who primarily does this is vocal and uppity (a canned, stereotypical character) ... so this tendency was maybe put in appropriate context but it was interesting.
review 2: Stuey Lewis is a 3rd grader who wants to impress everyone. In order to do so, he's got to think of solutions for how to teleport his class to a field trip with his dad, flying on an airplane for the 1st time, getting his mom the perfect Mother's Day gift, and participating in his class' pet show with no pet.(The characters seem a little babyish for being 3rd graders- I have/had a 3rd grader) less
