review 1: Actual review rating: 2.5 starsI was excited to read Mine to Tarnish, the prequel to You are Mine. However, it didn't live up to my expectations. We are shown the story of Katherine, a young girl who is sold to a man to be a wife, slave and also for her magical blood. She decides to run away before the wedding takes place and is helped by a tarnished boy. Katherine is the dress maker of the main character in You are Mine, it was interesting to see her back story. I didn't feel like Katherine's story was believable. She didn't stay in the presence of her new owner for long. It would have been nice to know more about what he was like. She basically decided to run away because he smelt a bit funny. The conversations she had with people were very brief and she fell in love wit... moreh Charles way to soon. She didn't seem like the same character as in You Are Mine, her personality was less outspoken and timid. Even though this may be expected because this did not take place in the same time and she was put through an ordeal. I felt that this separated this book from the overall story of Katherine.I did like the premise of all the tarnished helping each other out and the twist at the end was very well executed - I didn't see it coming at all. I'm hoping Mine To Spell is much better and follows the same lines of You are Mine.
review 2: “Mine to Tarnish” by Janeal Falor –Book Review (4 Stars)I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is the first “novella” that I’ve read of any series and I’m so happy I did! Janeal really packed so much into this story that it didn’t feel like it was just a “filler” book. I’m glad that readers are able to learn about Katherine’s journey and discover that she’s more than just the tarnished seamstress in Serena and Cynthia’s stories. Even though its only a short story, you’re fully able to grasp Katherine’s growth and journey to her becoming a tarnished. Janeal adds so much depth and character to Katherine, that you are quickly able to fall in love with her and cheer her on. I’m excited to see how she continues to be involved in this series, especially now that we know what her story is and how she has become the Katherine we love in the books! less
