Threadville Mystery
review 1: #1 in the Threadville mysteries series. Finalist for the 2011 Agatha Award for Best First Novel. Average entry in the hobbies / crafts / cooking / shop owner genre. Accept the flimsy backstory - perhaps it will be fleshed out in a later entry. Sure to be of interest to the advanced practitioner of the needle and thread based arts and crafts, the volume of technical terms left me out of the loop and bored. I like to learn new things when I read and the explanation and example of stumpwork was right on the money; however, the assumption that I would know what sewing across wide wale corduroy was like was not. All in all, a mixed bag, as was the cast of characters from the sweetness of the newcomers to the hostility of the established residents. I may try the next entry, Thre... moreaded for Trouble (2012), but I'm not on my way to the bookstore yet. Threadville mysteries - Willow Vanderling wants to leave her New York City life behind and has joined good friend Haylee in tour bus destination town Threadville. Nicknamed for the abundance of fiber art and fabric stores, Elderberry Bay, PA, looks like a perfect setting for Willow's new machine embroidery shop. And it is, until a powerful bully from the village is found dead in Willow's backyard, and she was the last one to wish him dead! Being the newest shopkeeper in town, Willow has no way to figure out her allies, initially. But as she and Haylee sleuth, they learn about the village's dark secrets. As expected, all hands are on deck to solve this whodunit, including a loyal posse of tour bus gals.
review 2: "Willow Vanderling's quaint new embroidery shop is not a hit with the local zoning commissioner. When he's murdered, the evidence is stacked against Willow"The synopsis is small, but the book is really good. The only thing I really disliked was the many, many, many times Willow said 'It wasn't her' who did it..... I know she wants to prove her innocence, but that could have been a little bit less. The book itself further is a quick read, I really liked it and will continue to read the other books in this series as well! less

I really did not get involved with this book. I like the characters, but not the flow of the story.
