review 1: A red pen, push pen, a stapler, an eraser, all fear the “pit” of no return better known as the trash can, neglect their duties and leaves the red pen to grade papers alone. They don’t want to be use and then thrown away. The red pen tumbles into the trash can due to exhaustion and everyone goes frantic. They come up with a plan to save the pen using the lazy hamster and while helping many more supplies are saved as well. Students can use this story to tell a time when they helped someone, encouraging them to always lend a helping hand review 2: I expected/wanted to love this book. I have enjoyed other books by Janet Stevens and Susan Stevens Crummel. This was only okay. 2.5 stars. What I did like is that the office supplies learned to work together ... moreand that the setting is a classroom. I liked the illustrations, but the story barely held my children's attention. It was a bit too punny. But I think it disappointed primarily because it really wasn't connected to the story of Little Red Hen and with a title like "The Little Red Pen", I'd expected it to be an adaptation of that classic folk tale. less
