review 1: I looked forward to reading this book and really wanted to like it d/t family saga subject matter, mystery of a lost twin, local author etc. Maybe I expected too much. Characters were well developed and the reader got to know them well....but it was a slow process. Not the pager turner I was hoping for. Good book for a group discussion because of the various agendas of the people involved and the ending didn't let me down. But over-all it was rather dull for a "pleasure read"
review 2: Chronicling the childhoods and teenage years of twins growing up in Boyle Heights, The Tin Horse explores history, identity, and ethnicity. Boyle Heights, an ethnic melting pot of Los Angeles during he 1930s and 40s, provides the perfect background for a story that grapples
... morewith how identity is formed and how it is influenced by individual choices and interpersonal connections. Steinberg weaves a suspenseful and richly descriptive narrative. less
