review 1: This is NOT a bad book! I however am not a fan of too much detail unless said detail becomes invaluable later. I do understand that fantasy is often synonymous with detail, however it usually becomes necessary later in the series! And in this lies my conundrum. Some of the detail in this book seems near impossible to come into play later. If I am wrong I apologize. For now however, I must say that this book did not excite me. WaAr
review 2: This was a cheap/free ebook purchase, although I'm not sure what initially interested me in it. The introduction establishes two lines of intrigue, one from the modern world (climate/sea level change) and the other from the ancient world (a biblical reference to the nephilim/fallen angels). The story appear to span paralle
... morel worlds linked to ours by a portal of some kind, although most of the action occurs on a fictional one. Its not clear how well this works, since it is not explored much further in this installment. There are a few character lines developed in a plot that spans a couple of decades - they are easy enough to follow and it moves along fairly well. The presence of an eastern style school seems to be dissonant with the judeo-Christian introduction, however, this may be explained as the story develops further. I read this on an overseas trip and found it good company and have purchased the next in the series to find out what happens next. less
