review 1: Like and Subscribe is a sweet short story which tells us about Evan’s crush on Tony Taylor. He follows Tony’s videos on YouTube, and his infatuation which the sexy man is increased by the fact that he knows the guy… If going to High School together can count as knowing someone. Anyhow, Tony embodies everything Evan looks for in his Prince Charming: He is sexy, sweet, caring, generous, loyal, and a faithful lover. But when he gets the chance of meeting Tony, and is even blatantly offered a one night stand, Evan realises that Tony is not what he seems to be. Anyway, his disappointment may lead to the beginning of a true love story.A very fast read, it is cute and entertaining. The story is short, but Jay Bell manages to convey a huge amount of emotions, infatuation: em... morebarrassment, disenchantment, pain and hope. The characters are likeable, even the secondary ones like Evan’s best friend, Julie. There is humour, romance and a little bit of anguish. A highly recommendable story, I am certain it will leave you with a broad grin in your face.
review 2: I liked this short. Evan has a heart of gold, in my opinion. He also has a slight addiction to a certain hot, hunky guy named Tony (whom he happened to go to high-school with). Tony likes to record himself divulging his "wants and needs and emotions" via YouTube and at times his current boyfriend, Orlando (who thinks Tony has "hung the moon"), is involved in said videos. Evan's roommate Julie, with a clear love for her friend, tries to get him to see the light, so to speak, and let go of his "fantasy" internet addiction. So, there you have it. Four main characters. For a short story there's a pretty good storyline and dynamic going on between the three men of the group. Tony is not all he's cracked up to be (in his love interests' eyes)...and I was more than satisfied with the outcome...a nice little twist it was, and a certain someone gets his "just desserts". A quick good read, well written. less
