review 1: The novel's structure and time frame contribute to the fascinating and compelling store. The use of four voices reminds me of Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury," but with a lot of difference. I learned a lot about the early part of the Korean War, a very sobering story, and was reminded of the poverty in West Virginia in the 1950s, still true in current times in some areas. Characters are well drawn, and develop believably. Easily I give "Lark and Termite" the highest rating. Read it and let the four voices weave their stories in your own mind.

I really enjoyed the novel once everything started making sense. This novel has a lot of stream of consciousness, and it uses very non-linear storytelling. It can definitely be confusing, but I'm glad I finished it. It was worth it. less
