review 1: the heroine was plain but so naughty it made for an entertaining read! she really was full of mischief and james cud not help but fall in love wid her after years of despising her indecent attitude! james had been in love wid sophie valentine all these years and overlooked poor ellie! i really felt bad for her when she admitted dat she had loved both of them (james and sophie) for 17 years!meaning dat she had had to watch james pursuing sophie and proposing marriage to her twice! however it's a fun read, the author chose to treat her unrequited love lightly;)
review 2: Historical romance with an original heroine who is more then a little too smart for the people in her life, she cross-dresses to card shark other nobles as well as doing a myriad of other things
... morethat a unmarried miss should not. Second chances for childhood friends.Miss Ellie Vyne aka Count de Bonneville has been paying for her whole family for almost a lifetime with her gambling but they are still embarrassed by her and try to marry her off but she may just find her own love (who happens to be a childhood friend). James Hartley is supposed to be a rake, but he is a nice guy with a reputation from his youth. I loved the little Lady Mercy who was ten going on thirty who finds some kind of happiness when she makes her first friend in the little poor maid, Molly. There is a lot of stress and love in this little story about a lot of selfish people and a few kind ones. I love a good well written friends to lovers plot and this one has a great story with a little too many twists and turns. Lots of original scenes and characters which made this the best historical romance that I've read this month. Why did I not find this author before this?! Great story.414 pages and kindle freebie3 and half stars less
