review 1: I actually picked the book up and was drawn to the cover and the title! Lol! Any book that promises a world or swords and princes has my attention! And I was a little bored and hesitant to keep reading it even 30 pages in.. I found the beginning a little slow.. But then the story picked up and the real adventure began and I read the rest of the book in only a few hours! I loved the feisty character of Marguerite and I also loved the historical significance and precision that the book held to the actually time it was set in. I was even more surprised to find out that the book was based on the story of the real Marguerite and that to a degree these things actually happened to her! (Or would probable have anyway). So overall this is a great read! Definitely a book to persever... moree with because it really comes through in the end.
review 2: Little is known of Marguerite, the Countess of Flanders; the authors state as much in their note at the end of the book. They do a masterful job of weaving historical fact with imagination to creature an immensely pleasing look at life in 14th-century Belgium. Marguerite's fate was sealed at birth, a girl born into a male-dominated society. Despite the lack of love by her father and having few rights, she learns to ride a horse and fight with a sword. Because of her titles, both the Prince of England and the Prince of France want her hand in marriage. The free-spirited young lady goes out of her way to both please and reject her father, wanting love not political gain in her marriage. A great adventure with romance thrown in. This book won several European awards, including the 2005 Beckman Prize for best historical youth novel in Flanders and the Netherlands and the 2006 Lion Award for best Flemish youth book. Its authors were recently awarded the 2011 Beckman Prize for their novel, Gallows Maid. Thanks to Annick Press for providing this wonderful book. less

Only 95 pages in and I just can't keep going. Very boring and too easy to put down.
